Blood Lad (Anime)

Well hello my darlings Glamour here and today I’m running through and over Blood Lad. Staz is a lay about with a collection of toys and memorabilia from Japan. Like any Otaku he dreams of one day going there and even meeting a human girl. Sounds like your typical nerd right? Not so much he also happens to be a territorial leader in the Demon World with a gang and his vampire powers to back him up keeping tight hold over West Demon World.

One day while wallowing about in his room musing about the human world his gang brings him something or rather someone they found the large breasted yet gentle school girl Fuyumi who was wondering why all these dangerous looking creatures were looking at her like steak. As dutifully ordered by their boss Staz’s right hand henchman Dek brought Fuyumi before Staz. After acting like a fool before a pretty girl Fuyumi urges him to help his ‘friends’ (henchmen dealing with an interloper) the poor girl is killed and brought back as a ghost. They two go throughout Demon World and the Human World to attempt to find a way to bring Fuyumi back to life. Staz even goes to high school classes posing as an exchange student to take Fuyumi home for a little while (although the fact he was finally able to go to the human world happened to be a bonus).

The character development was there while Staz was gaining a sense of duty from when he promised Fuyumi he would bring her to life and that til then she could use him as her personal blood bank to keep her from fading. Fuyumi meanwhile doesn’t truly change much since she’s honestly a little clueless however Belle the dimension jumping treasure hunter does have a couple of revelations in terms of figuring out her own emotions towards Staz and also upon finding out she has a sister. Meanwhile Staz comes to terms with his feelings as well and the cause of them although honestly for him it takes a little longer while his brother Braz acts like a one man resistance force after dumping their sweet little sister Liz onto Staz. Although with all the gushiness aside we have plenty of fighting in this series Wolf versus Staz in a boxing match, Staz getting repeatedly beaten up by ghouls, a wondrous escape attempt by Braz, and it wouldn’t be complete without Staz trying to be the ultimate otaku and copy the Kamehameha Wave… (and yes he did).

I found the art work pretty bright for a demon world but aside from the vast array of character/demon types nothing was truly out of the ordinary. Although I do celebrate that Staz is not set up like the typical pretty boy hero. Lackadaisical lout with a bad attitude but leaves everything out on the battle field and that makes him a refreshing contender.

All and all my dears I am quite fond of this series and the best part was that it was funny with the embarrassing parts like Belle trying to get her valuable back during a battle with Staz or Staz trying to figure out an outfit to meet Fuyumi in on the first episode…. Or the best I think would be Braz extracting a sample from Fuyumi which of course required her shirt to be up. Well dears I have a few entries so for now this Hatter is OUT!
